Comparison of the iPhone and the iPad

Whether you love or loathe Apple, one thing that is undeniable is that they have a knack for creating gadgets and gizmos that have plenty of appeal to the mass public. Their iPhone device has become a global phenomenon, and the release of their latest gadget, the iPad, has left some Apple devotees in a bit of a quandary about which of the devices would best suit their needs – perhaps both?

One of the most common misconceptions that are thrown around concerning the iPhone and iPad is that the iPad is merely a larger version of the iPhone. While it is true that there are more than a few aesthetic differences between the two, this is quite simply not the case.

The iPad is a tablet computer, and as such, it enjoys the benefits of improved hardware and software capabilities when contrasted with its smaller counterpart. The apps which are available for the iPad (although somewhat fewer than the iPhone, and mostly due to the difference in the length of time that the two devices have been available for) are certainly cooler; they look incredible and most have a much more intuitive feel than those on the iPad. This is an ergonomic reason, with the extra space available to iPad app developer really paying dividends in the creativity side of the market.

Despite the better hardware and the more intuitive apps, it is also true that the iPad and the iPhone share much of the same functionality; you would be incredibly hard pressed to find something that you could do on the iPad that you couldn’t do to some extent on the iPhone. Both allow users to play games, browse the web, send emails, watch videos and listen to music.

Although both the iPhone and the iPad are superb devices in their own right, many people will find that there is really not enough to separate them from one another in terms of them both being ‘must have’ items – except those who have particularly deep pockets…

Of course, there are other phones to rival the iPhone – such as the Blackberry Torch and HTC Sense – to help you decide you can go to Dial-A-Phone.co.uk for the latest deals on various touch screen mobiles, and read the full spec for the iPhone 4.
